Today, after the Department of Labor’s August employment report, which found that 84,000 Americans lost their jobs and that the unemployment rate climbed to 6.1 percent, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) signaled that Democrats would seek a second economic stimulus package as well as a comprehensive energy plan. Pelosi said the two items would help create new jobs while moving toward energy independence.

If this legislation comes to fruition, AAHSA and other stakeholder groups will advocate for inclusion of a temporary increase in the Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage (FMAP). A temporary FMAP increase would likely tide states over until the economy improves.

Please Contact Congress and urge your members to support an increase.
